Trezor Boosts African Bitcoin Education, Funds Bitcoineta Trip

Trezor, a leading hardware cryptocurrency wallet firm, takes a significant step in global Bitcoin education with the unveiling of the Trezor Academy, an educational initiative specifically tailored for Africa. The official launch occurred at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, on December 4, according to information provided by the company.

The Trezor Academy is a comprehensive educational program strategically crafted to disseminate knowledge about Bitcoin across the African continent. Originating as a pilot project in 2023, the initiative organizes in-person meetups led by local Bitcoin experts to provide a platform for communities to explore the intricacies and potential applications of Bitcoin. The pilot phase has already been active in several African nations, including Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya.

For 2024, Trezor has ambitious plans to expand its academies to over ten additional African countries. Concurrently, the company aims to enhance its impact by educating hundreds more local educators, creating a ripple effect of Bitcoin knowledge dissemination. Matej Zak, Trezor’s Chief Executive Officer, acknowledges Bitcoin’s particular relevance in Africa, emphasizing its benefits for local initiatives such as innovative payment schemes, microfinancing solutions, and savings avenues.

As part of Trezor’s educational efforts in Africa, the company supports Bitcoineta, a Bitcoin-themed vehicle designed to raise awareness in West Africa. Originally initiated in 2018 by non-profit organizations Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, the Bitcoineta campaign has been revitalized for Africa.

The campaign involves a Bitcoineta-branded Land Rover embarking on a road trip across the Economic Community of West African States, aiming to spread the message of Bitcoin to rural communities and schools. Trezor’s commitment is further evidenced by its financial support to Bitcoineta, with funds generated from the sale of a limited edition, Bitcoin-exclusive version of its Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet, launched in October 2023.
