Solana Overtakes Ethereum in Google Searches, Data Reveals

In 2023, Google searches for “Solana” surpassed “Ethereum” for the first time, driven by trader curiosity regarding movements within the Solana ecosystem. Although Ethereum maintained a substantial lead in search interest, the data shifted from Dec. 17 to Dec. 23, with Solana scoring 56 in search interest compared to Ethereum’s 50.

According to Google Trends data, Solana is projected to achieve a perfect score of 100 in search interest from Dec. 24 to Dec. 30, denoting “peak popularity for the term.” Solana attracted more search interest than Ethereum in specific countries, such as Spain and the Philippines. However, Ethereum remained more popular in Indonesia, Taiwan, Morocco, and others.

The data also revealed that users searching for Solana expressed interest in terms like “bonk” and “tensor.” Bonk, a dog-themed memecoin, surpassed Pepecoin in market capitalization on Dec. 8. Tensor, a Solana-based NFT marketplace, witnessed significant gains in the last 30 days. The increased interest in the proof-of-stake blockchain platform could be linked to Solana’s rising token, SOL.

On Dec. 20, SOL’s market cap surpassed Ripple’s XRP, with a 13.8% price increase, exceeding $82 for the first time since May 2022. On Dec. 22, SOL overtook BNB, securing the position as the fourth-largest crypto token by market capitalization. However, BNB regained its position on Dec. 29 as the SOL token reverted to pre-Christmas prices.
