Roblox, the popular online gaming platform boasting over 200 million monthly active users, has made an exciting announcement regarding its payment options. According to an update posted on October 17th by BitPay via X, Roblox is now accepting XRP as a viable payment method. This move comes as a significant development in the platform’s payment offerings.
The integration of XRP as a payment option has been facilitated by Xsolla, a company responsible for managing in-game payments within the Roblox ecosystem. Furthermore, BitPay has stepped in as a strategic partner to ensure a smooth and efficient connection with various cryptocurrency wallets.
Roblox is available across a wide array of mainstream platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. With a staggering 65.5 million daily active users, it’s worth noting that a substantial 44% of these users are under the age of 13. The demand for in-game purchases within Roblox remains robust, as demonstrated by the $773 million spent by its users on such transactions during the first quarter of 2023.
Xsolla has demonstrated a proactive approach to integrating cryptocurrency into its payment ecosystem. In August 2022, the company formed partnerships with the automated crypto management platform Coinchange Financial and the live-streaming social Web3 platform TradeZing, with the goal of developing a solution for payments involving nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Not stopping there, in August 2023, Xsolla also collaborated with Crypto.com to incorporate the latter’s checkout solution into the Xsolla Pay Station platform.
This collaboration between Xsolla and BitPay has a history dating back to 2014, when they first began accepting Bitcoin payments. Furthermore, in September 2023, BitPay and Xsolla expanded their payment options by introducing PayPal USD payments for both merchants and consumers. This expansion is indicative of their commitment to providing a diverse and user-friendly payment experience.
