NFT Platform Unveils Nintendo 64 Emulator on Bitcoin Ordinals

In a groundbreaking move that merges the realms of cryptocurrency and gaming, NFT platform Pizza Ninjas has announced the successful launch of a Nintendo 64 (N64) emulator on the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain using BTC ordinals. This innovative endeavour allows gamers to experience classic Nintendo games without the need for traditional consoles.

Emulators, long hailed by gaming enthusiasts for their ability to replicate the functionality of gaming consoles on various devices, have now found a new home within the realm of cryptocurrency. By leveraging BTC ordinals, which encode data onto satoshis, the smallest unit of BTC, Pizza Ninjas has paved the way for a unique gaming experience powered by blockchain technology.

The recent announcement from Pizza Ninjas heralds a significant milestone in the integration of gaming and blockchain technology. Through the utilization of Google’s Brotli Compression method, the platform has achieved remarkable advancements in inscribing larger systems onto the Bitcoin blockchain. This technological breakthrough enables the compression of game files by up to 80%, significantly reducing their size and facilitating their integration into Bitcoin blocks.

“Inscribing a larger system like N64 and its games is more realistically feasible than before,” remarked a spokesperson for Pizza Ninjas. “Brotli Compression allows for file size reductions around 80%. Take, for example, the iconic Goldeneye 64. It’s 12.4 MB uncompressed, but with Brotli we can get it down to 3.15 MB!”

The Nintendo 64, a beloved gaming console launched in 1996, captivated millions of gamers worldwide with its iconic titles and groundbreaking technology. According to data-tracking platform Statista, the N64 sold over 30 million units throughout its lifetime, solidifying its place in gaming history.

The integration of classic Nintendo games onto the Bitcoin blockchain represents a significant step forward in preserving gaming heritage for future generations. With the ability to encode games like Goldeneye 64 within Bitcoin blocks, Pizza Ninjas aims to ensure the longevity and accessibility of these timeless titles.

Moreover, this endeavour comes on the heels of a similar initiative involving the cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE). In January, the classic first-person shooter Doom was inscribed on Dogecoin using “doginals,” Dogecoin’s equivalent of BTC ordinals, further highlighting the growing intersection between cryptocurrency and gaming.

“With network fees now the lowest we’ve seen since the start of Ordinals,” stated Pizza Ninjas, “inscribing this at the current 15 sats/vbyte would only cost $6,000. Reasonable for a community of gamers with a vested interest in seeing these classic games preserved forever.”

As the worlds of cryptocurrency and gaming continue to converge, initiatives like Pizza Ninjas’ N64 emulator on Bitcoin exemplify the boundless potential for innovation within these burgeoning industries. With technology serving as a bridge between the virtual and the tangible, the future holds endless possibilities for those who dare to push the boundaries of what is possible.
