McLaren Artura GT4 SuperCar Data Goes Blockchain

In an innovative move, the engine performance data of a McLaren Artura GT4 supercar will be logged on the blockchain for real-time analysis during a testing day at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the integration of blockchain technology into the realm of motorsport.

Blockchain Integration in Motorsport

Race Lab, one of the five teams equipped with the McLaren GT4 in the British GT Championship, is at the forefront of this groundbreaking endeavor. They will install a blockchain-powered data tracker capable of capturing 20 data parameters. These parameters include vital aspects such as vehicle ignition timing, braking performance, oil pressure, engine temperature, steering angle, rotation, and gear switching.

This integration of blockchain technology into motorsport has been made possible through the collaboration of Minima, a layer1 blockchain for decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs), and Influx Technology, a leading data platform. The partnership has resulted in the development of the DePIN Data Logger, which enables the real-time collection of key metrics.

In a recent test race, the blockchain data logger proved its efficacy by assisting engineers in promptly detecting a technical fault with the wheel’s turn radius. This timely identification allowed the team to resolve the issue before the upcoming races, showcasing the practical benefits of blockchain technology in enhancing performance and safety in motorsport.

The use of Minima’s DePIN data logger ensures data integrity by securing data hashes. Thus, providing proof of its history and integrity. This not only benefits racing teams by ensuring the appreciated resale value of supercars but also aids in compliance with racing regulations.

Furthermore, the DePIN data logger streamlines post-race validations, potentially reducing the time taken for official procedures. Plucknett highlighted that such operations can take up to three hours. But, having immutable data transferred as cars cross the finish line is immensely appealing.

Finally, the integration of blockchain technology opens up new possibilities for fan engagement. A portion of the data collected through the DePIN data logger can be live-streamed to fans. This will enhance their viewing experience and potentially revolutionizing the world of Sim racing.
