Luxury Industry Set to Embrace Crypto with Aura Blockchain Consortium’s Vision

Romain Carrere, CEO of Aura Blockchain Consortium, has hinted at the luxury industry’s imminent foray into the realm of cryptocurrencies. Speaking at the NFT Paris event near the iconic Eiffel Tower, Carrere revealed that the Aura Blockchain Consortium, boasting members like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Mercedes Benz, Dior, Cartier, and Bulgari, is preparing for a groundbreaking move.

Aura aims to establish a unified blockchain approach, capitalizing on the surging interest in luxury brands from Web3 customers. Carrere emphasized the exponential growth of this customer base, underlining the consortium’s commitment to embracing on-chain technology.

However, the CEO has a dual focus. Beyond the crypto aspect, Carrere is directing efforts to prepare these luxury brands for the European Union’s impending regulations on Digital Product Passports (DPPs), expected to take effect in 2026 or 2027. These regulations are part of the EU’s sustainability drive, mandating comprehensive information about the origins and composition of products.

While the regulations don’t explicitly mention cryptocurrencies, Aura sees an opportunity to pioneer an industry-standard form of DPPs for luxury brands. Carrere explained that merely meeting the minimum requirements of the EU regulations won’t be sufficient for customer engagement. Aura is spearheading the integration of on-chain DPPs, leveraging successful blockchain experiments of luxury brands within the consortium.

Carrere envisions a future where European customers can access a secure on-chain portal associated with their luxury items. This portal will not only vouch for product authenticity but also offer additional features such as loyalty programs, warranties, and insurance.

As the luxury industry takes a bold step towards crypto integration, the Aura Blockchain Consortium aims to redefine the customer experience, merging authenticity, and innovation in a seamless digital landscape.
