Friday, July 12, 2024: Bitcoin Price Today is $57,852. The bitcoin price has fluctuated around multimonth lows, but institutional investors are taking advantage of this to “buy the dip.” Institutional investors have bought 100,000 Bitcoin (BTC) in less than a week, according to a July 11 Quicktake blog post from on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant.
Significant Accumulation Since June
Contributor Cauê Oliveira of CryptoQuant examined the wallet balances of organizations that represent the institutional segment of Bitcoin investors and possess between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC. Despite a 23% fall in BTC/USD, these entities have grown their exposure to Bitcoin at a rapid pace since the beginning of June. In contrast to when Bitcoin was trading close to its all-time highs, Oliveira said that institutional investors are now purchasing with greater conviction.

Last week, when Bitcoin fell to its lowest points since late February, buyers persisted, and the cumulative rise surpassed 100,000 BTC, or around $5.7 billion. “While many novice investors capitulated last week, with special emphasis on coins purchased between 1 and 3 months ago,” Oliveira said in a summary of the situation, “institutional players made the largest accumulation process since March.”
Institutional Accumulation and Market Dynamics
According to Oliveira’s analysis, the increase observed during the peak of inflows to U.S.-based spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in March is mirrored in the 30-day rolling balance change in institutional holdings. But unlike March, when the focus was primarily on fundraising, the present institutional accumulation appears to be a real “buying the dip” tactic among major participants. Oliveira concluded that “this means that the current institutional accumulation may indicate a true process of ‘buying the dip’ in large players,’ in contrast to what was seen in March, a demand more linked to fundraising.”
Even though March saw daily inflows of more than $1 billion, the daily totals now are lower. According to data from sources such as the U.K.-based investment business Farside Investors, the biggest monthly total was recorded on July 8 with $294 million, while July 11 saw approximately $79 million. This suggests a consistent, although cautious, interest in hoarding Bitcoin during the decline in value.

Bitcoin Market Sentiment and Short-Term Holders
While institutional investors keep purchasing Bitcoin, other cohorts of holders have difficulties. New whales and other short-term holders lost 17% of their unrealized gains during the recent decline to $53,500. The aggregate cost basis of short-term holders— entities holding BTC for up to 155 days—is above $64,000, according to on-chain analytics firm Glassnode. This suggests that many new investors are holding Bitcoin at a deficit.

The Crypto Dread & Greed Index has returned to “extreme fear” levels for the first time since January, indicating that overall market sentiment is still very negative, as previously reported. Notwithstanding the pessimistic outlook, institutional investors’ steady accumulation of BTC points to a solid conviction in its long-term worth.
