While non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have made a name for themselves in the cryptocurrency space, Web3 experts think there are still several obstacles preventing this asset class from being widely used. Web3 executives cite the complex user experience, the dearth of fresh narratives, and the overall Web3 space’s reputation issues as major barriers to the continued widespread adoption of NFTs.
Interacted with experts in the Web3 field to find out what they believe is preventing NFTs from being adopted more widely and what the field should do to get beyond these obstacles. The co-founder of Lyvely, a social monetization platform, Dave Catudal, thinks the industry needs more creativity and fresh stories. “I think the main issue with reluctant adopters is lack of innovation and fresh narrative in the space,” Catudal clarified. He underlined that there is a PR issue facing the market rather than a “tech problem.”
“Bloated hype, scams and threat of bad actors almost snuffed out the industry the first time, and developers will need to reinvent NFTs for its original worth in creating trackable and tradeable digital assets.”
Reputation and Complexity Issues
When it came to the reputation problem, Tyler Adams, the CEO and co-founder of Web3 startup COZ, felt the same way. The NFT sector is impacted, in Adams’ opinion, by the reputation of the larger Web3 field. The reputation of all things related to the Web3 realm is the primary obstacle. The community’s perception is unfortunately impacted by the conduct of a select few, said Adams.
Chief operating officer of Web3 wallet Savl James Toledano noted that the difficult process of generating, purchasing, and maintaining NFTs is one of the primary obstacles to NFT adoption. For those who are not technical, Toledano thinks this intricacy can be frightening. The importance of streamlining these procedures was emphasized by him.
Co-founder and CEO of Qiibee, a company that assists companies in tokenizing loyalty programs, Gabriele Giancola, concurs that NFTs introduce hype-driven perceptions and technical complications. According to Giancola, the industry must highlight the real-world uses of NFTs to show off their advantages.
Overcoming Barriers and Future Outlook
A key component of the Polkadot parachain LAOS Network’s co-founder, Dr. Alun Evans, stressed the necessity to “reclaim the term NFT.” Evans noted that the phrase is currently primarily used about digital collectibles. He clarified that removing adoption hurdles might be achieved by expanding the concept of NFTs to encompass uses other than collectibles.
“While that is one use case, there are many more, from tradable items in games and virtual worlds to tokenization of real-world assets, to ticketing, certification and more.”
The creator of the decentralized infrastructure network Fermion Protocol, Justin Banon, thinks that some of these obstacles have already been overcome in space. Demand, a challenging user experience, and market comprehension, according to Banon, are among the problems being addressed. Banon predicts that the challenging user experience will be resolved while the demand for NFTs will be resolved during the upcoming bull market. He thinks the market will begin to comprehend NFTs more thoroughly when Web3 technology becomes more widely used.
This analysis demonstrates the range of difficulties and advancements in the NFT domain. Although there is room for improvement in terms of innovation, reputation, and user experience, industry experts are certain that these obstacles can be removed with further work and the next market cycle, opening the door for NFTs to be used more widely.
