Democrats’ Crypto Opportunity Emerges as Biden Exits 2024 Race

The Democrats’ crypto opportunity emerges as Biden exits 2024, this is predicted by crypto industry analysts.

They speculate that the Democratic Party may have a new chance to win over cryptocurrency voters when President Joe Biden formally withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest on July 21.

To take on Republican Party competitor Donald Trump, Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Chervinsky: A “Huge Opportunity” for Democrats

Jake Chervinsky, chief legal officer at Variant Fund and former Blockchain Association lawyer, sees this as a “huge opportunity to win back a big share of the crypto vote.” In a July 22 post on X, Chervinsky emphasized:

“This should be the top priority for the new nominee in an election that will be won on the margins in states where crypto is a live issue.”

He noted that thousands of crypto supporters are “single-issue voters” who could significantly influence the election outcome in key states like Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Five Recommendations for the New Candidate

Chervinsky outlined five strategies for the new Democratic candidate to appeal to crypto voters:

  1. Recognize crypto’s importance to the US economy
  2. Acknowledge failures in current regulatory approaches
  3. Propose balanced policies for innovation and consumer protection
  4. Suggest crypto-friendly appointees for key agencies like the SEC and CFTC
  5. Engage with crypto industry stakeholders

“I believe the Democrats have a huge opportunity, but only the new nominee can decide whether to take it,” Chervinsky concluded.

Industry Groups Echo Sentiment

The Cedar Innovation Foundation, a crypto policy group, agreed with Chervinsky’s assessment, stating:

“This is the moment to present a new vision for American innovation that keeps innovation jobs in America, ensures global competitiveness in digital assets, and heralds in a new era of financial inclusion and prosperity.”

Harris’s Potential Crypto Stance

Adam Cochran of Cinneamhain Ventures noted on July 22 that Kamala Harris has not yet taken a public stance on crypto. However, he suggested that her potential running mates are pro-crypto and that the campaign might distance itself from the crypto policies of the Biden era.

Cochran added:

“Given the backlash they’ve seen on the matter, and the field of moderates who have reasonable crypto takes, I think you’d expect an attempt to distance themselves from Gensler, Warren and Biden-era policy on crypto.”

Predictions for Harris’s Approach

Messari founder Ryan Selkis predicted that Harris will be “honest about how enlightened she is now with crypto” when appealing to swing voters.

As the political landscape shifts with Biden’s exit, the cryptocurrency community watches closely to see how the Democratic Party performs. Particularly under Harris’s potential leadership, might reshape its approach to digital assets and blockchain technology.
