Bored Ape Yacht Club and BAPE Collaborate on Ape-Themed Streetwear

The Bored Ape Yacht Club is teaming up with another ape-themed apparel company, the legendary Japanese streetwear brand BAPE, also known as A Bathing Ape.

After teasing the crossover on Twitter previously, Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs officially announced it on Monday night. A cartoonish illustration of a t-shirt featuring both BAPE and Bored Ape graphics on it was included in the teaser. “Been a fan since way back when,” the tweet states. BAPE then quoted it on Twitter.

The partnership, according to Yuga, will initially manifest as a tangible streetwear drop that will be offered in a constrained quantity during the Bored Apes’ ApeFest Hong Kong event in November.

“Together, the two brands have reimagined iconic designs from BAPE’s deep archives and usher in a return to the golden age of streetwear collecting,” an official press release notes.

The clothing will initially only be made available at ApeFest Hong Kong and online to Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT owners through a token-gated site. Following that, more amounts will be distributed to owners of BAPE’s own Bapetaverse NFT project. In December, the collection will finally be made available to the general public through BAPE shops and the BAPE Store online.

“It may come as no surprise that we’re fans, and we know a lot of members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club are too,” stated Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano, in a release. “BAYC collaborating with BAPE on a limited physical collection feels like the most natural thing in the world.”

A Bathing Ape is a well-known streetwear brand that was established by fashion designer and businessman Tomoaki “Nigo” Nagao in 1993. It has worked with a wide range of businesses and artists, including Marvel and Nintendo as well as Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and others.

According to statistics from CryptoSlam, The Bored Ape Yacht Club has generated approximately $3 billion in trade volume for the core collection to date and an additional $4 billion from spinoff and future collections, making it possibly the most well-known IP to emerge from the NFT market.

While NFT holders, like rappers Snoop Dogg and Eminem, have utilized their own Bored Ape artwork to generate goods and derivative ventures through IP commercialization rights, Yuga Labs has made official partnerships with legendary fashion giants like Adidas and Gucci.
