Blockchain Gaming Attracts $2.3 Billion in Investments Year-to-Date: Report

In 2023, blockchain gaming projects have attracted a significant $2.3 billion in investments, with the third quarter alone receiving $600 million, despite the prevailing bearish mood in the cryptocurrency market throughout the year.

According to a report from the decentralized applications (DApp) tracking platform DappRadar, the first quarter of 2023 saw investments totaling $739 million, followed by $973 million in the second quarter, and $600 million in the third quarter. These figures demonstrate that the blockchain gaming sector has garnered a total of $2.3 billion in investments over the first three quarters of 2023.

In the third quarter of 2023, $213 million of the investments were directed toward the development of metaverse-related games and technology, even though some have questioned the viability of the metaverse. The remaining investments in that quarter were allocated to Web3 gaming infrastructure and investment firms, as per DappRadar’s report.

While these investments signify that stakeholders still see potential in the blockchain gaming sector, the total amount invested in Web3 gaming this year is considerably lower than in 2022. DappRadar analysts pointed out that the investments made this year represent only “30% of last year’s fundraising activity.”

Comparatively, the third quarter of 2022 witnessed investments of $1.2 billion in blockchain gaming, whereas the third quarter of 2023 recorded about 50% less, marking a significant decrease in investment in the space.
