Bitwise’s Ether ETF Donates 10% of Profits to Ethereum Devs

Bitwise’s Ether ETF donates ten per cent of its profits to Ethereum Developers.

The US SEC officially allowed the spot ether ETFs to start trading on July 22.

The SEC approved the last S-1 statements, allowing major stock exchanges like the Chicago Board Options Exchange, the Nasdaq, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to list these ETFs.

Bitwise’s Commitment to Ethereum Ecosystem

Asset management firm Bitwise has shown an intense commitment to the Ethereum community, as it plans to debut its Bitwise Ethereum ETF (ETHW) on the NYSE.

The company declared that 10% of its ETHW earnings will be donated to two charities that support Ethereum.

Beneficiaries of the Donation

The proceeds from Bitwise’s donation will be distributed as follows:

  1. Protocol Guild: An organization supporting over 170 core contributors to research and development for the Ethereum layer-1 protocol.
  2. PBS Foundation: A nonprofit that funds open-source Ethereum block relays and provides grants toward Ethereum decentralization.

Rationale Behind the Donation

Hong Kim, Bitwise’s chief technology officer, explained the motivation behind this decision:

“Every investor in ETHW wants Ethereum to continue to advance, and this donation program contributes to that goal.”

Kim also emphasized that Ethereum is maintained by a dedicated community of open-source developers.

Transparency Measures

In addition to the donation pledge, Bitwise committed to publishing the wallet addresses of all its ETHW holdings. Investors will be able to verify the fund’s holdings and flow directly on the blockchain through this move, enhancing transparency.

This isn’t the first time Bitwise has made such a commitment. In January, the company pledged to donate 10% of its profits from the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) to open-source Bitcoin development and announced a similar pledge for its spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Bitwise isn’t alone in this approach. In January, VanEck, another asset management firm, pledged 5% of its spot Bitcoin ETF profits to Bitcoin core developers and donated $10,000.

Potential Impact on ETH Price

Kaiko, a crypto analytics firm, believes that inflows from these newly launched ETFs could affect the price of ETH.

Will Cai, Kaiko’s head of indexes, stated that while a complete demand picture may take several months to emerge, ETH prices may be particularly responsive to inflow numbers in the initial days of trading.

As spot Ether ETFs begin trading, Bitwise’s commitment to the Ethereum ecosystem sets a notable precedent in the industry. This also encourages other firms to contribute to the development of the cryptocurrencies underlying their financial products.
